Maternity Support Services

If you're having a baby, you may feel committed, anxious, excited or scared. The staff of the Maternity Support Services (MSS) has been helping new families since 1989.

The MSS team will work with you to develop a pregnancy plan, find needed resources, learn about parenting, and become the best prepared parent you can be.

Our goal is the same as yours....a healthy life for you and your baby!

WHO IS ELIGIBLE?
All pregnant women covered under Medicaid are eligible.

WHEN DOES "FIRST STEPS" BEGIN?
The "First Steps" program services assist you before, during and after you deliver your baby.

YOUR MSS TEAM INCLUDES
A community health nurse who provides teaching and answers questions related to pregnancy, childbirth, infant development and parenting issues. The nurse also assesses and weighs newborns through convenient home visits.

A dietitian provides one-to-one nutrition counseling for pregnancy, postpartum and infancy. The dietitian assists with meal preparation tips and food budgeting ideas. She can also offer breastfeeding education and support.

A social worker acts as a confidential, caring listener to help you sort through your questions and help make the best choices for your family. She can assist you in problem solving, reducing stress, parenting and relationship issues. She can also coordinate community resources for transportation, child care, housing, legal issues and baby items.

The community health worker enrolls you in the "First Steps" program and explains services provided by medical coupons She helps with budget planning and teaches proper car seat usage and in-home safety.
